Faculty: Termed as the "Finance God" on our campus it has to be Prof. Sabhyasachi Sengupta. With a bevy of degrees namely CA, CS and ICWAI he has immense knowledge on the subject. His pedagogy is the perfect blend of theory and practice and the experience of being a student can only be felt as words fail to ’tangibilise’ the intangibles.

“The XL culture can only be experienced and cannot be explainedâ€
These words straight from our dean’s mouth are the most apt description for life at XLRI. In this article I’ll try to ’tangibilise’
Life at XLRI has been a roller coaster ride. Right from Day 1, every new day is like an adventure to seek, a new road to tread upon and a new quest to be conquered. The thing that strikes any individual first is the humility that is ingrained in our very system. Despite the myriad backgrounds that each individual comes from, XLRI offers equal opportunity to all, and consequently, builds in us a sense of respect and humility in every person.
Studying in the best private business school institution ensures that everyone has a stellar profile, and that brings out the competitive streak in us. That however, is merely a streak; not the all-pervading aspect of ever XLRI student, because in the face of opposition, we know we have hands that will hold us steady and act as shoulders to rely on. Take our seniors, for example. They are there to help us even the day before their exams. They’ve conducted multiple sessions to inform us and
Nothing can be more uplifting than this motivation we can constantly depend on. The beauty of this motivation is that it is not served to us in doses only when called upon, but it is a constant verve that is synchronized to our heartbeat. The raw passion that every XLRI student has is self-evident and is the driving force of this institute. One only needs to look at this brief chronology of what has transpired in the past week to get a glimpse of the passion that drives this premier B-school.
The first week is an orientation week of all sorts. The entire community is actively involved to smooth en the process of transitioning to a new environment, to ensure that at the end, we feel we’re part of a big family.Needless to say, life out here is hectic, but fulfilling. The first week saw a mix of orientation, sessions on subjects, overnight marketing competition (Maxi), getting to know half of the senior and junior batch and most importantly, ourselves.
From second week onward sleep becomes a prized resource. In fact the host of activities ensure we are still going strong 4 am in the morning. The mix of surprise quizzes, assignments, case study competitions, committee selections, interest group participation, sports etc ensures that there’s always something for everyone. Taking an evening stroll in the hallowed portals at 3 am, unleashing the photographer in us , engaging in um covalent bond matching, or having a legendary bite at Bishu Da.The attraction exists outside the campus too! Brubeck’s, the Tata Zoo, the Bistupur Market area etc. teaches us to find joy in little things.
Coming to the third week well there’s a conundrum between skipping that breakfast, attending an early morning class, deciding on assignment submission, or simply not leaving my bed at all! Multitasking reaches a new level when committee selection, group task, case studies and various other assignments need to be completed in the same time window.
That’s what the first month (nearly) at XLRI is about. Did I mention previously that birthday nights and other XL traditions are best when experienced? Trial by fire takes place (quite literally!) for the uninitiated.Â
Moreover, XLRI guarantees that we learn the best of the Indian traditions. While interacting with mini India we learn about the best of the Indian culture more than what we have in our entire life!
P.S. The rest will only be disclosed if you arrive here on campus ;-)!!
The warmth of the entire fraternity ensures the aptness of the title "Home away from home".
What I’ve learnt so far is that getting into a premier B-school is not success. It is an opportunity which thousands yearn for
but few get. An opportunity which can be life changing for the society in general and an individual in particular. It is only the
B-school, and what you choose to take away from it that determines how impactful the change will be.Â
And I know that being from XLRI means that each one of us is going to be a harbinger of change.

Placement: Our SIP (Summer internship process) and Final placement process are conducted for over 2-3 days wherein the whole batch gets placed. As part of college culture, we do not indulge in merry making till the whole batch gets placed and stand united. We have a huge list of companies that our placement committee and other allied committees work hard to pitch to, receive and escort to our campus and even set up road shows and company presentations. Some of the companies even conduct online (video conferencing) interviews.
Faculty: Real life experience with over 20 years corporate exposure. Hence always keeps us abreast of the latest developments.
