UGC NET Normalization Of Scores
Since the UGC NET exam is conducted in multiple shifts, and the difficulty level for each session varies, it is important to follow this practice of normalization. It ensures that there is no bias for the different levels of difficulty level and all the students get an equal weightage. Here is how it works:
Calculating Raw Scores - As a first step, the raw scores or the actual scores are calculated. To do this, simply award 2 marks for each correct answer, and then add them up to get your raw score. There is no negative marking in the exam.
Normalization: Percentage Based - In this step, the raw scores are converted into percentile scores which reflects that the candidate has performed better than that percentage of students. For example, if your percentile is 80, it means that you have performed better than 80% of the test takers.
Merit List Preparation - Once the percentile scores are calculated for all the shifts and sets separately, the final merit list is prepared based on these scores.
UGC NER Result - Once the merit list is prepared, it will be used for the final ranking list and result preparation.
