NEET UG 2024 Re-exam - The Supreme Court dealt with the petitions filed which challenged the NEET UG Result released by the NTA on June 4. The court has allowed NTA to re-conduct the exam for 1563 candidates who were awarded grace marks during the result of the medical entrance examination. As per the new date of NEET Exam, the re-exam will be conducted on June 23. Along with taking the retest, the Supreme court has also advised the NTA to cancel the NEET Scorecards of these 1563 candidates who wish to reappear in the exam. Those who do not wish to reappear and still want to go ahead with the admission process will have to submit their original scorecard (without the grace marks) for admission.
Who leaked the NEET 2024 Paper? |
There have been 63 cases filed against the unfair means by NTA, but there hasn’t been any certainty about if the NEET Question Paper was actually leaked. The officials have reported the same. |
The NTA has informed the court that the result of NEET Re-exam will be declared before June 30 so that to prevent any delay in the NEET Counselling process. The counselling process of NEET Exam will begin from July 6. 2024.
What is NEET UG Controversy?
The Supreme Court of India addressed three petitions filed against the NEET UG 2024 Controversy. These three petitions sought cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 and conduct of a retest due to the malpractice of the testing agency in granting of grace marks. The court set up a bench composed of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta who reviewed the petitions filed. The founder of EdTech company ‘Physics Wallah’, Alakh Pandey also filed one of the petitions. The second petition was filed by SIO members namely Abdullah Mohammed Faiz and Dr. Shaik Roshan Mohiddin. They requested to recall the NEET UG 2024 Results and re-conduct the examination. The petitioners pointed out that it was statistically impossible to secure marks as high as 718 and 710 out of 720, hence questioning the correctness of distribution of grace marks. Besides, the number of students who secured 100% marks in the exam reached up to 67 from one particular centre, which is again questionable and raises suspicion.
The National Testing Agency had been under scrutiny since it released the NEET Exam Result on June 4, 2024. The petitioners raised questions about the arbitrary allocation of grace marks to 1563 candidates in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024. Alakh Pandey along with the other petitioners had requested the Supreme Court of India to establish a panel of experts to inquire into the NEET Examination process and the results of NEET UG 2024.
Amidst all this chaos, the NEET Counselling Process is all set to begin in the month of July and hence, the petitioners have also raised a plea requesting a stay on the counselling process until the supreme court verdict comes out. To petitioners’ dismay, on June 11, the Supreme Court has refused to put a stay on the ongoing counselling process for the candidates who have cleared NEET UG 2024 Exam Cutoff without any grace marks. Although, the hearing of pleas on the discrepancies in the NEET UG Exam Results is under consideration.
Justice Vikram Nath said “Responses will be filed by the NTA. Let the counselling start. We are not stopping NEET 2024 Counselling”.
Along with this, the Supreme Court of India also ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to come forth and provide clarifications on the discrepancies in the NEET Result overall. The court issued this warning through an official notice to the NTA. The justices have questioned the integrity of the process stating that the sanctity of the exam has been affected and we need answers.
How many students got 720 out of 720 in NEET 2024? |
There are 67 candidates who secured full marks i.e. 720 out of 720 marks and attained rank 1 in the common rank list of NEET Exam. |
Why is there an issue in NEET Result?
Below mentioned are the issues raised by the petitioners:
- This year, as many as 67 students have achieved a perfect score of 720/720 marks in the NEET Exam.
- The unfair practices of NTA in NEET 2024 Result came under suspicion when six candidates from a single coaching centre in Faridabad, Haryana made it to the list of perfect scorers i.e. Rank 1.
- The petitioners claimed that the NTA’s decision of granting grace marks was ‘arbitrary’ and did not follow any certain pattern or sequence. 70 to 80 marks were randomly awarded as grace marks to 1563 candidates who took the NEET Exam.
