New Update About MAT 2024

IIM Lucknow has revised CAT Admit Card 2023 release date. CAT Admit Card will now be released on 7 November 2023 @iimcat.ac.in. The release date of CAT Admit Card was previously set to be 25 October. Candidates will be able to download their respective CAT Admit Cards until the exam day by using their CAT login ID and password. The CAT 2023 Exam will be held on November 26 at approximately 400 test centres across 150 cities. The exam will be divided into three slots and will last two hours. Candidates will be able to take the test at the centre only if they bring a hard copy of their CAT 2023 Admit Card.

The MAT Registration for the December session have begun on 7th September 2024, and the MAT 2024 Exam will be conducted as PBT, and CBT (1 & 2) modes for December. The MAT Application form can be filled online on the official AIMA website and the registration fee for all the modes is same, INR 2100. Candidates who have appeared for the exam in the previous sessions can login using their existing MAT User ID, but new applicants will need to register themselves fresh and pay the MAT Application Fee.

The MAT exam will be conducted as MAT PBT, and 2 MAT CBTs - CBT 1 and CBT 2, The mode of exam can be chosen by the candidate while filling out the application form. The MAT exam is scheduled from 7 - 22nd December 2024. The MAT registration for MAT PBT will close on 7th December, while the MAT CBT 1 registration closes on 30th November. Q: Is MAT 2024 Registration Open?

A: The MAT 2024 registration for the upcoming December session is currently ongoing. The MAT registration for MAT PBT will close on 7th December, while the MAT CBT 1 registration closes on 30th November. The last date to register for the MAT CBT 2 exam is 15 December 2024

Q: Are there any changes made in the MAT Exam?

A: Yes. As compared to 2023 and past years, significant changes have been introduced in the MAT exam and exam pattern. The MAT September session has been shifted to August, and the number of questions in the exam has been reduced from 40 to 30 in each section. The total marks for the MAT exam have also reduced from 200 to 150, and the exam duration is now 2 hours.

Overview of the MAT Exam

The full form of MAT is the Management Aptitude Test, which is a national-level examination conducted for admission to MBA courses in over 800+ top notch B-Schools. The exam is conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) in four phases - February, May, August, and December. 

MAT Exam is conducted in offline mode as Paper-Based-Test (PBT), online mode as Computer-Based-Test (CBT), and Remote Proctored Test (IBT). The MAT exam fee, syllabus and exam pattern remain the same for all three exams but the exam dates and admit cards are separate for each exam. Candidates can even appear in multiple modes, but have to register for them separately. The test score of the last MAT exam taken will be considered for admission process.

Q: Do IIMs accept MAT scores?

A: No. None of the IIMs or even IITs for that matter accept the MAT Scores. For admission to MBA in IIM, only the CAT exam scores are accepted. However, the MAT score is accepted by other reputed 800+ B-schools like Amity University, SRM University, OP Jindal Global University, Jain University, etc.

Q: What is the difficulty level of the MAT exam?

A: The difficulty level of the MAT exam is considered to be somewhere between easy and moderate. Analyzing the past years' trends it is safe to say that the difficulty level of the exam has remained stable and the questions are not too complex.

What's New in the MAT 2024 Exam?

As compared to the previous year, the MAT conducting body, AIMA has introduced significant changes in the MAT exam for the 2024 session. It is important for the candidates to know about these changes and devise their strategies and preparation plan accordingly. Check the significant changes introduced in the MAT exam 2024 below.

  • MAT 2023 was conducted in 4 sessions - February, May, September, and December. However, in 2024, the MAT September session has been scrapped and the 3rd session is being conducted in August 2024.
  • The MAT exam fees has observed a significant increase. The MAT 2023 fees for the PBT, CBT, and IBT mode was INR 2100 respectively, and to apply for a dual mode the MAT fee was INR 3300. However, for MAT 2024, to apply for a dual mode, the fees has now increased from INR 3300 to INR 3600
  • The Indian & Global Environment Section in the MAT exam has been renamed to Economics & Business Environment from MAT 2024 onwards
  • The MAT exam pattern has also been revised in MAT 2024. Earlier, each section had 40 questions and the total marks were 200. However, in MAT 2024, the number of questions in each section has reduced to 30, and now the total marks of the MAT exam are 150
  • The MAT exam duration has reduced from 150 minutes (2.5 hours) to 120 minutes (2 hours)

MAT Exam - Eligibility Criteria

To appear for the MAT Exam, the candidate must ensure that they fit in the eligibility criteria. The MAT Eligibility Criteria has been given below.

Age Limit: There is no specific age limit to appear for the MAT Exam

Minimum Marks: No minimum qualifying marks are required to take the MAT Exam. Candidate should have just passed the examination

  • The graduation can be in any stream

Q: What are the MAT eligibility criteria?

A: As per the MAT eligibility criteria, the candidates should have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized UGC university or equivalent. The students awaiting their final year results can also apply for the exam. There is no specified age limit to attempt and appear for the MAT exam.

MAT Exam Application Form

The MAT Registration Process is same for all the three modes - PBT, CBT, and IBT and the application mode is online for all 3 modes. Candidates need to select the relevant exam mode while applying for the exam. Candidates can check the step-by-step procedure below.

Step 1: Registration

The first step here is to register for the MAT Examination. The steps to register are detailed below.

  • Visit the official website of AIMA MAT - mat.aima.in
  • Register using details like the Name, Email ID, Phone Number, and setting a password
  • Confirm the details and click on the ‘Register' button at the end
  • An OTP will be shared to the registered mobile number. Verify the phone number

Step 2: Filling out the Application Form

Once registered, the next step is to fill out the actual application form. Steps to fill the MAT Application Form are given below:

Q: Is the MAT registration fee the same for IBT, PBT, and CBT modes?

A: In case a candidate is applying for a single mode of the MAT Exam, like PBT, CBT, or just IBT (either 1 or 2), then the registration fee for MAT is the same, i.e., INR 2100. However, in case a candidate wants to appear for more than 1 mode of the exam, they need to pay an additional fee of INR 1500. So, if someone applies for both PBT and CBT, they will need to pay INR 3600.

Q: How to select the MAT test cities in the application form?

A: Once the candidates have successfully registered on the website, they will proceed to fill out the MAT Application form with the credentials received on the registered email. When you start filling out the application form, you will be able to find the section where you need to fill in the preferred test cities. It is to be noted that the test cities are different for both PBT and CBT modes. Candidates must be careful while choosing the exam mode and test cities. Though there are multiple options to select from, a candidate can only choose up to 2 test cities for the MAT exam.

Q: Can I edit the MAT Application form after submission?

A: No. Once the MAT application form is submitted no changes can be made to the application form. Candidates must therefore be very careful while filling out the application form, test mode(s), cities, etc.

MAT Exam Admit Card

The MAT Admit Card is an important document to be carried at the exam center. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall without an admit card. The MAT 2024 admit card can be downloaded online using the login credentials and will be available for download for all three modes separately.

Things to carry along with the MAT Admit Card

Along with the MAT Admit Card candidates must carry the following items to the MAT Exam hall. Please note that candidates will carry all the documents that apply to them. In case a document is not applicable to a candidate, they need not carry the documents. However, one valid photo ID proof is necessary.

Valid Photo ID Proof: A valid photo ID proof like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, or Voter's Card

Proof of Name Change: In case you have changed your name, you must carry the relevant documents in support

Q: Is the MAT easier than other MBA entrance exams?

A: When compared to other MBA exams like CAT, XAT, NMAT, etc., MAT is one of the most student-friendly exams. The questions asked in the MAT exam are simple and not too complex to solve. Especially, The Reading Comprehension Passages in MAT are way simpler than those of XAT. The Quantitative Aptitude section is also simpler as compared to XAT or CAT but carries the maximum weightage in the MAT exam.

Q: Can I re-appear for MAT if I get a low score on the first attempt?

A: Yes. The MAT exam is conducted 4 times a year and in 3 different modes. In case a candidate wants to appear for more than 1 mode in a single year they can do so by filling out the MAT Application form before the deadline. In case the deadline has passed, or the candidate does not wish to take the second attempt in the current month, they can opt to apply for the next session. The Mat 4th and Last session for 2024 will be conducted from 7th to 22nd December 2024 in PBT and CBT Modes.

Q: Is the MAT question paper the same for IBT, PBT, and CBT modes?

A: Yes. The MAT exam pattern and question paper are the same across all the modes. There is no change in the question paper. There are 150 questions in all the three modes to be solved within 120 minutes.

Q: Is the syllabus for MAT IBT, PBT, and CBT exams common?

A: Yes. The syllabus of MAT IBT, PBT, and CBT exam modes is common throughout all the MAT sessions conducted in a particular year. There is no change in the syllabus or even exam pattern. The question paper of MAT IBT, PBT, and CBT also remains mostly the same, however, the order of questions may vary for each session.

Q: How many questions are there in MAT and which section has the maximum weightage?

A: The MAT exam has a total of 150 questions in MCQ format and each section has 30 questions to be solved in 120 minutes or 2 hours. The quantitative aptitude section of the MAT exam carries the highest weightage out of all the 5 sections.

MAT Exam Result

The MAT Result for a particular exam date is released on the same date as the exam on the official website. the result is uploaded in the form of a scorecard and can be downloaded in the student dashboard. It must be noted that the candidates who appeared full multiple modes can use the best score for admissions. AIMA sends the score to the top 5 colleges listed in order of preference while filling the application form, directly. Below are the steps to check the results of the exam.

Q: Are scores of all the sections considered for the calculation of MAT results?

A: No. To calculate the MAT results the scores of only four sections are taken into account – Quantitative Aptitude, Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis, and Language Comprehension. The scores of the Economics & Business Environment sections are not counted for the MAT result calculation.

Q: How long is the MAT Scorecard valid for?

A: The MAT scorecard is valid for 1 year only. So the candidates must be admitted to the desired college in the same academic year as the exam. If a student has taken the exam in the December 2024 session, the scorecard will only be valid for December admissions and cannot be carried forward to January 2025. If a student does not take admission to a college in 2024, they will need to re-appear for the exam in 2025 session(s).

MBA Selection Process Through MAT

The MAT Selection Process or MAT Counselling process is pretty simple and straightforward. Candidates first appear for the MAT exam and then for admission to the MBA and PGDM programs, candidates need to appear for the GD/PI process for each college applied to. Documents to Carry During the WAT & GD-PI Rounds

MAT 2024 qualified candidates shortlisted for the personal interview round will receive call letters on their registered email ID. The details of the interview like last date of registration, time and venue of the GD-PI, documents to carry and fee details will be mentioned in the call letter. Candidates need to carry the following documents at the time of GD-PI.

MAT Exam Day Guidelines

On the day of the MAT exam, candidates need to ensure that they follow a certain set of rules and regulations created by the exam authorities. Below are the guidelines to follow on the day of the exam.

  • Carry 2 copies of the MAT admit card
  • For MAT IBT mode, candidates need to ensure that they have a stable laptop connection and a working laptop or desktop. All the connections should be checked at least 1 hour before the actual exam
  • The MAT PBT and CBT exams are conducted from 10 - 12 p.m. Candidates should report to the exam center at least 1.5 hours before the exam hall, i.e., 8.30 a.m.
  • candidates only need to carry a blue or black ball point pen to fill the attendance sheet and fill the OMR sheet
  • No electronic gadgets like smart watches, mobile, ipads, or calculators in the examination hall. Candidates must ensure that they do not carry any such item in the exam hall
  • No digital copy of the MAT admit card will be accepted in the exam hall. A digital copy will not be considered a valid proof

MAT Cutoff 2024

MAT Cutoff is the minimum score required by the candidate to be selected for the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round of the MBA Colleges for admission. Candidates meeting the cutoff for MAT will be selected for the admission process. The MAT Cutoff is usually lower than that of exams like CAT, XAT, or CMAT. What is MAT IBT??

AIMA has introduced a new exam mode, MAT IBT, beginning in May 2020. IBT stands for Remote Proctored Internet Based Mode. This can be taken from home, as IBT exam candidates can appear from the comfort of their own homes rather than going to an exam centre.

What is the use of MAT exam??

The MAT exam is used for admission to MBA and PGDM/PGP programmes at over 700 B-Schools in India. The exam is given four times a year, in February, May, September, and December.

What is MAT Eligibility Criteria??

The MAT exam requires a bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognised university. Students in their final year of graduation or those awaiting results are also eligible to take the MAT.

How can I apply for MAT exam 2024??

In order to apply for the MAT Exam 2024, candidates must visit the official website of AIMA MAT and register themselves for the upcoming exam as the exam is conducted 4 times a year. They must register themselves, fill the application form, upload the required documents and process the payment of MAT Fees.

What is the MAT exam Fees??

The MAT exam fee is Rs. 3600/- for two MAT exams. The only way to pay for the MAT exam 2024 is online. The MAT exam fee is payable by credit card, debit card (ATM card), or net banking. For a single session, the exam fees is INR 2100/-

What are the pass marks for the MAT Exam??

A MAT composite score of 400 or higher is considered good. Most MBA colleges that accept the MAT choose students with MAT scores ranging from the 80th to the 99th percentile.

Which is easier, CAT or MAT??

MAT Exam is undoubtedly the easier exam for admission to MBA when compared to the Top MBA Exam, CAT Exam. The difficulty level of the CAT Exam is higher than that of the MAT Exam as CAT Exam has the sectional limit which makes it even more difficult to be cracked by MBA Aspirants.
