The College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) in Chennai, India, is India’s oldest engineering and technical institution established in 1794. Today it is one of the four constituent colleges of Anna University and one of the most prestigious and highly selective Engineering schools in the country. The students studying here constitute some of the brightest minds in the country and they are recognized globally for this aspect. It was started in May 1794 as a School of Survey and established as a college in 1859 under the Madras University, and is one of the oldest technical institutes in the world. This institution has the unique distinction of having introduced B.E. Degree Courses in Mechanical Engineering in 1894, Electrical Engineering in 1930, Telecommunication and Highway Engineering in 1945 Printing Technology in 1983 and Geoinformatics in 1992. It was the first institution in South India to establish a Computer Centre - as early as 1963.
Through its Center for Distance Education, Anna University provides online courses. The B.E/B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, and MBA programs of Anna University are very well-liked. However, Anna University only admits about 29% of applicants since it exclusively accepts the best scorers on entrance examinations. Students are admitted to Anna University based on their performance on admission tests like TANCET, CEETA PG, TNEA, NATA, UGC NET, and CSIR NET.
The 189-acre campus of Anna University is furnished with all contemporary amenities. 20 research facilities and satellite campuses are also located at Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, and Tirunelveli. At the moment, the institution is home to 1400 PhD experts and more than 1600 degree-seeking students.
