In Kolkata, West Bengal, India, Asutosh College is a government-sponsored institution that is associated with the University of Calcutta. It is renowned for having one of the highest academic standards and the best job placements in the state and is one of the oldest and most prominent universities there.
Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, then-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, created the institution in 1916, and it bears his name. South Suburban College was its original name before Asutosh College was adopted in 1921.
The institution provides a huge selection of undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of the arts, sciences, and business. Additionally, it offers a variety of professional courses, including B.Com. with Honors in Accounting and Finance, B.Sc. with Honors in Computer Science, and B.A. with Honors in Journalism and Communications.
Asutosh College provides various programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. It offers BA, B. Sc, BBA, B. Voc, M. Sc, MA, M. Com and several other programs. These programs are offered under various specializations. Admission to these programs is completely merit based and done based on candidates’ performance in the last qualifying examination.
Steps to Apply for Admission to Asutosh College
The admission process of the college is conducted in online mode. Interested candidates seeking admission to any of the programs offered by the college must register themselves. Below mentioned are the steps that one must follow for admission:
Step 1 – Visit the website of CollegeSearch i.e. https://www.collegesearch.in/.
Step 2 – Click on ‘Colleges’ and type college’s name in the search bar.
Step 3 – The college profile appears after clicking on ‘Asutosh College’.
Step 4 – Navigate to and click on ‘Request to Apply’ tab available on the top left of the page.
Step 5 – It will redirect you to the page where registration procedure takes place.
Step 6 – Enter your details such as Name, Mobile no., Email id, and the course you would want to apply for.
Step 7 – Registration process is complete, and a new page of suggested colleges appears where you can apply for any other college you might be interested in.

Asutosh College is located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was established in 1916. This institute is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and is accredited by NAAC.
This institute offers various Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses. The UG courses include BA (Major/Honours/General), B.Sc. (Major/Honours/General), BBA (Hons) and B.Voc. The PG courses include an MA (Hons) and M.Sc. (Hons) in several specializations. It also offers distance education in M.Com/MA/M.Sc courses. The institute also offers Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses.
Asutosh College mode of application is online.
Admission to the UG courses is on the basis of merit in the Senior Secondary Examination. Along with the merit, Group Discussion and Personal Interview happen for BBA (Hons) candidates. For PG courses admission is done on the basis of Admission test conducted by the institute.
Asutosh College Admission Process:
For First Year B.A./B.Sc. (Hons./General/Major), B.B.A.(Hons.), B.Voc. Programme, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses
- Selected candidate list will be displayed on the website and the College Notice Board on the notified date.
- Selected candidates must print admission form and fees payment voucher.
- Attach the following documents with the filled form:
- Qualifying examination mark sheet.
- Four passport size colored photograph.
- Residence proof.
- Domicile certificate.
- Date of birth proof.
- Verify the form by respective departments with all original documents.
- Collect admit card from the notified room.
- Admission fee can be paid online or through fees payment voucher (Cash, DD, Pay order).
- During admission, each student needs to submit the Calcutta University Registration form.
- Submit registration form along with admission form to receive Roll No., Fees Book, and Identity Card.
BA, B.Sc. and BBA Admission:
The minimum eligibility for these courses is minimum 50% marks in the Senior Secondary Examination for the honors course with 45% marks in the relevant subject. For general course, the candidate should have scored minimum 40% marks in the Senior Secondary Examination. Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidates. It is mandatory for candidates to pass English in the Senior Secondary Examination. The gap of more than 5 years is not allowed between the previous qualifying examination year and admission year.
B.Voc Admission:
The college offers B.Voc in Software Development and Industrial Aquaculture and Fisheries. The minimum eligibility for this course is 45% marks in the Senior Secondary Examination. English is a mandatory subject in the Senior Secondary Examination.
MA and M.Sc. Admission:
The minimum eligibility for these courses is 40% in Honors degree in relevant subject. 60% of seats are reserved for Calcutta University candidates except for Environmental Science. Rest 40% seats are for candidates from other universities. For Calcutta University candidates admission will be done on the basis of merit while for rest of the candidates’ admission will be done on the basis of admission test.
Diploma and Advanced Diploma Admission:
The duration of the Diploma course is 1 year while the duration for Advanced Diploma is 2 years. The minimum eligibility for this course is 40% marks in the Senior Secondary Examination with the relevant subject. 5% relaxation is given to SC/ST candidates. English is a mandatory subject in qualifying examination.
