VTU CGPA and SGPA Calculator

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) uses the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) to measure the overall academic performance of the students. SGPA is a measure of the academic performance of student/s in a semester. It is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses registered in a semester and the total course credits taken during that semester. It shall be expressed up to two decimal places. CGPA is a measure of the overall cumulative performance of a student over all semesters. The CGPA is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses in all semesters and the sum of the total credits of all the courses in all semesters. It is expressed up to two decimal places.

To calculate CGPA, you need to have access to two things, i.e., the Credit score (C) assigned to each subject a student has registered for and the GPA or the student's grade score in each subject multiplied by the credit score assigned to the subject.

The conversion formula for the conversion of CGPA to percentage released by VTU is as follows: (CGPA earned - 0.75) x 10= Percentage of marks scored. To convert SPGA to percentage the formula given by VTU is: (SGPA Earned - 0.75) x 10= Percentage of marks scored.

The computation of SGPA as per VTU is SGPA(Si)= ∑(Ci x Gi)/ ∑Ci. Here Ci is the number of Credits of the ith course and Gi is the grade point scored by the student in the ith score.

CGPA is computed in the same manner taking into account all the courses undergone by a student over all the semesters of a program. The formula is CGPA(Ci)= ∑(Ci x Si)/ ∑Ci. Here Si is the CGPA of the ith semester and Ci is the number of credits in the semester.
