SSC CGL 2018 Tier 1 examination is expected to be conducted in July 2018. Every year Lakh of candidates appear for SSC CGL examination and this year approximately 20 Lakh candidates will apply for this examination. A lot of aspirants find difficult to crack the first round i.e. the Tier 1 of SSC CGL Examination. The candidates aspiring to qualify SSC CGL examination still have enough time with them to prepare for SSC CGL 2018 examination. Here are some important preparation tips that will surely help you in qualifying the SSC CGL examination.

SSC CGL 2018 Tier 1 Exam Pattern:

  • The Tier 1 examination comprises of 4 subjects i.e. General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.
  • SSC CGL 2018 Tier 1 question paper will comprise of nearly 100 questions and the maximum marks including all four subjects will be 200.
  • The Time Duration for Tier 1 examination will be 60 minutes.
  • The examination will be conducted through online mode.

English Comprehension

Reading Comprehension, Fill in the blanks, Spelling, Phrases & Idioms, One-word Substitution, Sentence Correction, Error Spotting.

 

Subject-wise Preparation Tips:

General Intelligence & Reasoning-

  • You can expect 3 or 4 questions from all the above-mentioned topics mentioned under General Intelligence & Reasoning section.
  • Topics such as Classification, Coding-Decoding, Analogy, Venn Diagram, Non-Verbal reasoning are comparatively more important.
  • One or two questions are surely asked from Word Formation, Direction & Distance, Missing number and Blood Relations.
  • Reasoning involves a lot of time. If you want to master the subject, then you must practice questions based on Reasoning regularly.
  • Topics such as Word Formation, Distance & Direction, Blood Relations etc. are very time consuming and requires a regular practice.
  • Try different pattern of questions on the same topic. Refer Sample Papers and try solving unsolved questions. Don't just read the solved questions. Try to solve each question yourself which will help in scoring better marks in this topic.
  • Take the mock test and try to solve them in given time.

General Awareness-

  • If you want to master this subject, then watch the news and read newspapers regularly and try to find the scoop of each story covered in it.
  • Prepare each topic individually such as science, politics, history, sports, geography, current affairs etc.
  • Keep revising and learn the names and dates by making a table on a separate sheet.
  • Try solving competitive books available in the market.

Quantitative Aptitude-

  • This is the toughest section of this paper and requires a lot of preparation.
  • Concentrate on the NCERT Books to clear your concepts. Once you are done with NCERT then try solving sample papers to cover different pattern of questions on each topic. Topics such as Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Speed-distance-time, data interpretation requires a lot of practice. However, these topics are quite easy, and you must have surely covered them during your schooldays but to solve the questions in the given time is the main task.
  • Refer Class 8th to Class 10th notebooks to cover all the topics of this section.
  • Practice Sample papers and Mock tests to improve your speed in this section.
  • Don't forget to learn the formulas of Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry and Mensuration.

English Language-

  • The English section comprises of three main topics i.e. Vocabulary, Grammar and Comprehension.
  • For Vocabulary improve your ‘Word Power' by writing, memorizing and checking synonym and antonym of each new word you come across. Keep revising those words regularly otherwise you may forget the word after few days.
  • Practice Grammar. The only way to master grammar is through practice. Clear all your concepts and try solving questions based on them. You can make a separate table for topics such as tenses, active & passive voice, direct & indirect speech etc. You can refer to grammar books such as High School Grammar by Wren & Martin to clear your concepts.
  • For comprehension try to solve as many comprehensions as possible. Read the comprehension meticulously then read the questions, then read the passage again. You will easily find the answers to the questions asked.

As SSC CGL Tier 1 examination will help you to qualify for the other examinations of the SSC CGL, so prepare carefully and remain focused. The syllabus is quite easy and can be easily mastered.
