The ONGC scholarship program for deserving students in the General category is a unique scholarship opportunity for students from underrepresented groups in society enrolled in first-year engineering, MBBS, MBA, or Master of Geophysics/Geology programs.

The scholarship program's objective is to give financially disadvantaged General Category students who demonstrate merit. An annual scholarship of INR 48,000 will be awarded to 500 selected students to help them finish their study.

Disbursement of the Scholarship

  • The scholarship will provide a lump sum payment of Rs 4000/-per month, or Rs 48000/-per year.
  • The sum is to be paid annually following the conclusion of the academic year. Through the ECS feature, the scholarship money will be directly paid into the students' bank accounts.
  • Once granted, the scholarship will be given out year until the end of the course, provided that the student is advanced to the following year. If the candidate is not advanced to the following year by their particular Institute, College, or University, the scholarship will be terminated. Students who wish to continue receiving the scholarship must submit an online "Application for renewal" in the required manner.
  • Should the student choose to pursue another scholarship after being awarded an ONGC scholarship, the full scholarship sum awarded by the ONGC Foundation must be refunded.

For the Engineering / MBBS programme – The students must have passed the Class 12 examination with a minimum of 60% marks.

For MBA / Masters in Geology / Geophysics – The students must have passed graduation with a minimum 60% mark or 6.0 CGPA/OGPA on a 10-point scale of the grading system.

Gross annual family income

For SC/ST candidates: Less than ₹ 4.50 Lakh per annum from all sources

For OBC/General candidates: Less than ₹ 2 Lakh per annum from all sources

Age limit

Maximum 30 years old (as of 16th October 2023)

How Students Can Apply The eligible candidates must send their applications manually based on the given steps below:

ONGC Scholarship: Required Documents 

The applications for scholarships will remain incomplete without some important documents that an applicant needs to attach with the application. The list of key documents that are needed before applying for the scholarship includes:

  • Passport-size photograph of the applicant
  • Caste certificate (in English/Hindi language)
  • Age proof  including Birth certificate/Class 10 marksheet)

ONGC Scholarship: Selection Criteria

This is a scholarship award based on merit alone for the final selection process. The company itself selects the final scholars. The ones who go for Engineering or MBBS programs have their selection dependent on their performance at O-level. But, then again, those taking MBA or in Geology/Geophysics, which can be either master's or postgraduate levels. "The applicant’s selection draws from his or her graduation performance. Where students have leveled marks from the qualifying examination, preference will be given to those with lower family income among them. Beyond that, students from low income [Below poverty line, BPL] families will be given first priority with the rest being considered only if the number from BPL families who meet eligibility requirements is inadequate.

ONGC Scholarship: Terms and Conditions

To ensure the successful implementation and disbursement of the scholarship, ONGC has set certain terms and conditions for the students to fulfill. These include –

  • The students, who intend to apply for the ONGC scholarship should not receive any other scholarship or financial assistance.
  • To ensure the continuation of scholarship every year, the scholars need to show satisfactory performance in their annual examination.
  • The conduct of the scholar is also taken into consideration for scholarship continuation.
  • The students have to obtain at least 50% marks or a scale of 5 grade points out of 10.
  • In case, the student fails to maintain the academic requirements or conduct, the scholarship will not be paid to them for the respective year.
  • Furthermore, if the scholarship is discontinued, the students can apply for renewal by filling the scholarship renewal application form in the specified format, only if they have been able to maintain the said percentage or grades again.
