NSF is the abbreviation of North South Foundation Scholarship. It is a merit scholarship for the selected, academically talented students of India who are from economically inferior backgrounds. This foundation was established in the year 1989 by Dr. Ratnam Chitturi and is founded on a mission to further the higher education of worthy students who do not have financial muscles to back their academic pursuits. This would help the NSF support such students to become future leaders and contributors to society. The scholarship fee would be able to pay for complete tuition fees and other cost of education needed by the students, thus offering a relief from financial stress rather than time focused on studying.
The exclusivity of NSF lies in its scholarship, which is merit-based and need-based, for students. The competition gets tougher while getting selected for the scholarship, and a student has to prove not only academic excellence but also prove commitment to education and growth. The scholarship is for students pursuing professional courses like engineering, medicine, and other science-related fields, which have the prospect of impacting their future and that of large communities.
Among many special features, such as good academic performance and leadership among scholars, North South Foundation Scholarship offers not only a scholarship to recipients but also a platform to develop leadership among its scholars. It encourages the scholars who attain the scholarship to give back through programs in mentoring, tutoring of younger students, and other volunteer activities. This focus on community service is beneficial to fortify the leadership skills among students but also instils a sense of responsibility toward society, which indeed forms the core philosophy in the foundation.
Over the years, the NSF has grown into one of the largest networks of scholars, alumni, and supporters not only in India but also all around the world. Today, such a large network provides the scholars with very highly valued mentorship, networking, and career development opportunities. Many NSF scholars have gone on to become something great in their respective fields, contributing to the vision of nurturing the next generation of leaders who will make positive social change.
