Madras University established the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) in 1981. Since that year, Madras University has offered distance learning courses. It is well-renowned for its variety of distance learning programs. This university received an "A" from NAAC, and its NIRF ranking is 25. The minimum eligibility criteria for admission into PG courses is to have a bachelor's degree in the respective discipline from a recognized university.
