KVPY Exam: Overview

Young Scientist Incentive Plan, or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), was a scholarship program supported by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India with the goal of enticing students to pursue research careers in the basic sciences. Selected students were eligible for scholarships and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level. It was started in 1999 and was run by the Indian Institute of Science. Students who passed the KVPY Exam were qualified for a fellowship and, depending on additional requirements, admission to institutions like the IISc and the IISER. Three streams were available for this exam: SA (Class 11), SX (Class 12), and SB (First Year BSc). Since 2012–2013, the SP Basic Sciences stream (Classes 11, 12, and First-Year BSc, BTech) and SP Medicine stream (First-Year MBBS) have been discontinued. DST's decision to merge KVPY and INSPIRE was announced on the KVPY website on July 18, 2022. In the beginning of 2022, the KVPY Aptitude Test will no longer be available. Current KVPY fellows will continue to receive fellowships in accordance with DST guidelines.

How to fill online KVPY IISC Application Form?

After understanding what the KVPY exam entails, it is time to begin the application process. KVPY Exam mode is available online. Payment can be made via Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Here is a step-by-step guide to submitting a KVPY application:

1. Registration for KVPY 

• This is for new users. If a student has already registered for the KVPY exam, he or she can skip to Step 2.
• Go to kvpy.iisc.ernet.in and select "KVPY Applications."
• Read all of the instructions on the page and click to enable the disclaimer box.
• When you click the 'Login' button, the KVPY login page will appear on the screen.
• Click the 'Click here for registration' link.
• A new page will appear on the screen, and the window displaying recommended browsers will be closed.
• Fill out the captcha code and press the 'I Agree' button.
• Now, double-check all of your information and click the 'Register' button. Login information will be sent to the same phone number and email address used in the KVPY registration form.

2. Filling out the KVPY application form

• Go to the KVPY login page, enter your login ID and password in the appropriate fields, and then click the login button. 
• Click the link to the KVPY application form on the dashboard. 
• Fill out the first section with personal information, then the second with academic information.

3. Upload your photo and signature.

• Following that, students must submit their required documents one by one.
• Save all of the documents.
• The following documents are required to complete the KVPY Application Form:
• One scanned passport-sized photograph (JPG/JPEG or PDF format); keep in mind that the image size should not exceed 150 kb when uploading.
• One scanned signature of less than 80 kb in size. 
• Scanned copy of caste certificate (if applicable).
• PDF of the medical certificate for PWD candidates. 

4. Payment of application fees

• Proceed to payment after reviewing the form.
• Students can pay their KVPY application fees online with a credit card, debit card, or net banking account.
• Please keep in mind that, as stated on the KVPY instructions page, this fee is non-refundable.
• Make a note of the transaction details for future reference.

KVPY IISC Syllabus

IISc Bangalore does not have a set KVPY IISC syllabus. The KVPY exam is designed to assess candidates' analytical abilities and comprehension rather than their factual knowledge. Students must therefore cover all topics in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology from classes 10 and 12, as well as the first year of B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math., International M.Sc., or M.S., depending on the stream they have applied for.
