JEE Main Admit Card Live Updates 2023
The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are a set of 25 multidisciplinary, technology-based engineering research institutes in India that are primarily concerned with information technology. The Ministry of Education (MOE) founded, sponsors, and manages five of them. The remaining 20 are built on the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with funding split 50:35:15 between the federal government, state governments, and industrial partners. These schools have produced talented young men and women who have gone on to become significant individuals in their fields. While some, such as IIITH and Bangalore, are easily recognized, the other institutes may be less well-known. Regardless, they are all part of the same institute.
The following are the top 5 IIITs of India-
Admission to undergraduate programs at IIITs for around 7,000 seats is handled by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority and JEE-Main. Admission to postgraduate programs is through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

Engineering programs at IIITs are available in a variety of specializations. Mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, and computer science engineering are a few examples. Many applicants who wish to study B. Tech/ M. Tech. programs at IIITs choose Computer Science as one of their specializations, followed by Electronics & Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. IIIT Colleges in India provide B.Tech., M.Tech., MBA, and PGD programs. While most IIIT schools in India exclusively offer UG and PG programs in IT and CS, a handful additionally provide dual degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Similarly, specific IIIT colleges in India provide Ph.D. programs. The specializations provided by IIIT colleges in India are listed below:
B. Tech Specializations | M. Tech Specializations | Dual Degree (B.Tech+M.Tech) Specializations |
Computer Science Engineering | Computer Science Engineering with M.Tech in Systems Design
Electronics and Communication Engineering | Electronics and Communication Engineering with MTech Communication and Systems Design
Electronics and Communication Engineering with Design and Manufacturing | Electronics and Communication Engineering with Design and Manufacturing and MTech in VLSI and Electronic systems

Mechanical Engineering with Design and Manufacturing | Electronics and Communication Engineering with Design and Manufacturing and MTech in Signal Processing and Communication System Design
Mechatronics Engineering | Mechanical Engineering with MTech in Advanced Manufacturing
Smart Manufacturing | Mechanical Engineering with MTech in Product Design |
Although independent, all IIITs are linked through a similar admissions process. JEE Mains is used to determine admission to UG engineering programs at IIITs. Since the NTA (National Testing Agency) took over in 2018, the exam has been held twice a year in January and April for admission to various IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
In addition to undergraduate engineering programs, the institutes provide M.Tech., MBA, Ph.D., and dual degree courses in the IT and communication fields of engineering. The below table has an additional entrance examination that one will need to take to be eligible to apply for other programs at IIITs-
Courses | Entrance Exams |
| |
B.Tech M.Tech Dual Degree
M.Tech | |
MBA | |
B.Tech MBA Dual Degree | JEE Main |
Ph.D. | In-house Admission Tests and PI |
Following JEE Main, students seeking admission to IIITs must attend counseling with the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) or the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). The authority manages and regulates allotting seats to applicants for admission to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, 28 government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs) managed by JoSAA, and 23 centrally-funded technical institutes (CFTIs) managed by CSAB. This single counseling platform is used for admission to the B.Tech. programs provided by IIITs.

Ans. The government of India created five of the 28 IIITs, while the rest are managed on the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model. They are supported by the federal and state governments, as well as industry partners.
Ans. IIIT Hyderabad is one of the IIITs in India that provides competitive packages.
Ans. The A. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior, was the first IIIT in India, founded in 1997, and is presently designated as an Institute of National Importance by Parliament as of December 2014.
Ans. Yes, IIITs in India accept JEE Main marks for admission. To get admitted to the IIITs, applicants must have a score of 250 or above.
Ans. It is entirely dependent on your JEE Main scores. Some IIITs outperform NITs in terms of placement, faculty, and infrastructure. However, NITs are MHRD-funded institutes that have a greater level of recognition than IIITs. However, among all IIITs in India, the top 5 IIITs are the best in the long term.
Ans. IIIT Allahabad, IIITDM Kancheepuram, IIITDM Jabalpur, ABV-IIITM Gwalior, and IIITDM Kurnool are the top five IIITs in India.
Ans. Candidates must pass the JEE Main to gain admission to IIITs across India. Students must also get marks equivalent to or higher than the JEE Main cutoffs for IIITs.
Ans. The finest institute for those interested in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is IIIT Hyderabad.
