The Dr Ambedkar Scholarship is a scholarship programme for Punjab residents belonging to the SC and OBC categories. The State Government intends to provide financial assistance to qualified students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing higher education. Furthermore, the Punjab State Government, along with the Department of Welfare for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC), have launched a number of projects under the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Scheme. The Ambedkar scholarship for SC students is open to those whose annual family income does not exceed INR 2,50,000. 

About the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship:

Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

The Punjab Government offers Dr Ambedkar scholarships to economically disadvantaged SC/OBC students residing in Punjab. Candidates who have completed class X and are pursuing a postdoctoral degree can apply for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship. Other qualifying conditions for the post-matric plan for SC and OBC students under Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship 2024 are as follows:

  • SC students should have an annual household income of no more than INR 2,50,000.
  • Applicants must be SC members and Indian nationals.
  • Students who change their course of study after completing one or more levels of education are not eligible to apply for the Dr. Ambedkar scholarship.
  • Applicants attending postgraduate medical education are eligible for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship 2024, provided they do not practice medicine.
  • Candidates interested in distant learning/correspondence are also able to apply.
  • The student should have completed class 10 and be enrolled in a post-matric or post-secondary course at a recognised institution.
  • Students seeking the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar scholarship should not earn any other scholarships.
  • Applicants who receive pre-examination coaching with financial aid from the state/central government are ineligible for the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Government of Punjab programme.

Post-Matric Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship for OBC Students

Applicants for the Post-Matric Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship for OBC Students must have finished Class 10 and be enrolled in a post-matric or post-secondary programme at an approved institution. Students might refer to the information provided below:

Applicants must be Indian nationals and members of the OBC.

  • The annual family income of OBC students shall not exceed INR 1,000,000.
  • Only two boys from the same household are eligible to apply for the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Punjab. However, the restriction does not apply to female applicants.
  • Applicants studying postgraduate medical education are entitled to apply, as long as they do not practice during the course duration.

Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship: Rewards and Benefits

The government grants Dr Ambedkar scholarships to deserving students, allowing them to pursue their further education. The Dr Ambedkar scholarship cash will be transferred immediately to the scholar's bank account using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method.

Dr. Ambedkar's Scholarship Amount for SC Students

The scholarship amount for SC students is given below.

  • Thesis typing/printing fees of up to INR 1600 for research scholars.
  • Students enrolled in professional and technical programmes can pay up to INR 1600 per year for study tours.
  • People with disabilities receive a transit allowance of INR 160 per month, an escort allowance of INR 160 per month, Special pay of INR 160 per month, and an additional payment of INR 240 per month.

Group 2: UG/PG courses leading to degrees, diplomas, or certificates in Pharmacy, Nursing, LLB, BFS, Mass Communication, Hotel Management, and Financial Services, with a minimum level of study of Class 12, as well as other PG courses such as MA, M.Sc, M.Com, and M.Ed.

Book allowance of Rs. 1200.

Reader allowance of Rs. 240.

Group 3: consists of all courses not covered in Groups 1 and 2, which lead to a BA/BSc/BCom degree.

Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship: Amount for OBC Students

The scholarship amounts for OBC students are provided below:

  • Thesis typing/printing fees of up to INR 1000 for research scholars.
  • Students enrolled in professional and technical programmes can pay up to INR 900 per year for study tours.

Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Application Process

The Dr. Ambedkar scholarship application can be completed online. Candidates must complete the Dr Ambedkar scholarship form online, which may be accessed from the internet. The complete application method is provided below:

  • Applicants should visit the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal.
  • As a new user, the student should go to the 'Student Registration' tab and register on the scholarship site. A user ID and password are generated upon successful registration.
  • To complete the Dr. Ambedkar scholarship site login, applicants should click on 'Registered Students' Login' and enter their user ID and password.
  • To access Dr. Ambedkar's scholarship form, they should click the 'Apply for Scholarship' button.
  • The application form must be filled out completely.
  • To submit the Dr. Ambedkar application form, the applicant should ensure that all of the details supplied are correct before clicking on the 'Register Scholarship Application form'.
  • The candidate must click on the left side tab of the application form to upload all of the documents required to verify the candidate's credentials.

  • The renewal candidate must go to the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal and select 'New Registration'.
  • They should input the previously used login details for the Dr Ambedkar scholarship.
  • The applicant should next select the 'Renewal Application' tab for the current year.
  • All personal information must be supplied, and a new User ID and password are established.
  • The candidate should log in to the portal using the new credentials they acquired.
