The Central Reserve Police Force was formed on July 27, 1939, under the Crown Representative's Police (CRP) Act. Initially, the force became the Crown Rep Police (CRP), later renamed Central Reserve Police Force after the portrayal of the CRPF Act in 1947. Their motto is Service and Loyalty. Currently, 246 total battalions and more than 3,00,000 personnel serve in the force.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is graded organizationally. Special DGs and Additional DGs assist the Director-General (DG), who manages the force. The DG oversees the force's deployment, training, and operations.
Several Inspector Generals (IGs), who answer to the Director General (DG), are in the custody of overseeing the operational and administrative operations of countless zones, sectors, and groupings. The Inspectors General (IGs) are supported by the Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), who are in charge of various ranges and battalions.
The CRPF has battalions, companies, and platoons as its operational units. The commandants of the battalions are in charge of the organization, teaching, and welfare of their battalions. Assistant Commandants lead the platoons, although Deputy Commandants oversee the companies.

The CRPF's primary role lies in assisting the States and Union Territories in police operations to maintain law and order and provide Internal security.
With a glorious history spanning 84 years, this force has evolved into a substantial organization comprising 246 battalions. These include 203 executive battalions, 5 VIP Security battalions, 6 Mahila battalions, 15 RAF battalions, 10 CoBRA battalions, 5 Signal battalions, and 1 Parliament Duty Group.
The CRPF headquarters is in New Delhi, led by a Director General and assisted by 3 Additional Directors General, 9 Inspectors General of Police, a Financial Advisor, and a Director (Medical).
The highest rank in the CRPF is the rank of Director General.
However, in exceptional cases, the concerned HOO may permit any dependent relative or person to reside with the allottee in CRPF quarters. Widows of Force personnel shall be treated separately, and with permission from HOO, her relatives can be allowed to stay in the family quarters.
