CLAT 2023 counselling: Updating NLU preference

Giving NLU preferences is an important aspect of CLAT counseling. Before downloading the CLAT admit cards, candidates had already indicated their admission preferences to the NLUs. They are currently unable to update their NLU counselling preferences. The following factors are considered when selecting NLUs:

  • Ranking of national law schools in the NIRF Law Ranking 2022 and other ranking parameters;
  • The candidate's marks and ranking
  • CLAT cut-off for selected NLUs from the previous year
  • NLU chosen by the candidate

NLU Admission Process 2023

Option 1 - When the candidate accepts the seat allocation

  • If the candidate accepts the allotted seat, he must proceed with the admission process as outlined below.
  • Accept the seat, then upload the required documents and pay the fees.
  • The candidate's submitted documents will be used for verification. The candidate must now follow the instructions and report to the assigned NLU to complete the admission formalities.
  • Candidates must only contact the NLU assigned to them if they have any issues or questions about their documents or fees.

Option 2 - When the candidate requests an upgrade/revision

  • Candidates who choose this option agree to accept the assigned seat as well as apply for the Revise option. This will ensure that they do not lose their assigned seat. Such candidates will either be assigned to an NLU that is higher in the preference order than the current allotted university, or they will keep their current seat.
  • Candidates who choose this option must pay the course fee to the designated NLU and upload the required documents to the CLAT login portal in order to be considered for revision.
