  • Number of Applicants: A higher number of applicants can push the cutoff higher, as the competition increases.
  • Exam Difficulty Level: A more challenging CAT exam could lead to a lower cutoff, as scores might generally be lower across the board.
  • Profile Diversity: IIM Ahmedabad values diversity in its classrooms, which means that candidates from non-engineering backgrounds, with exceptional academic or extracurricular achievements, may be given slight relaxation in cutoffs.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process

The selection of the candidates for admission to the  IIM Ahmedabad is a comprehensive process. For your ease we have categorized the process in 3 sections, Preliminary Screening, Shortlisting for AWT & PI and Final Selection.

IIM Ahmedabad Shortlisting and Selection Criteria

1. Preliminary Screening: In CAT-2024 there will be three sections, viz., ‘Quantitative Ability’ (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning’ (DILR) and ‘Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension’ (VARC). Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs(see table above) in the sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2024 will be considered for all the subsequent stages.

2. Shortlisting for AWT & PI: Shortlisting will be carried out in two stages. In the first step, candidates are shortlisted for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2024 score:

  • Stage 1: Selection of exceptional performers across different disciplines. A certain number of top candidates from each of the academic disciplines will be shortlisted for AWT & PI on the basis of their composite score. [Composite Score = 0.35 * Normalised AR score + 0.65 * Normalized overall score in CAT-2024]
  • Stage 2: After removing the candidates selected in Stage 1 from each category (General, NC-OBC, SC, ST and PWD) the additional number of candidates to be shortlisted for AWT & PI will be selected on the basis of the composite score.

3. Final Selection: Selection at this stage will strictly be based on the shortlisting of the candidates done separately for each category (General/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD) on the basis of their ‘Final Composite Score’s (FCS). [FCS = 0.50 * Normalized PI Score + 0.10 * Normalized AWT Score + 0.25 * Normalized CAT Score + 0.15 * Normalised AR Score]

[Note: At different stages of the selection process ‘Application Rating’ (AR) score of an applicant will be used. An applicant’s AR score is the sum of the rating scores ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘E’. Rating scores A, B, C and D are based on their percentage of marks obtained in the 10th standard, the 12th standard (depending upon the stream, viz., ‘Science’, ‘Commerce’ and ‘Arts & Humanities’), the bachelor’s degree programme (depending upon the discipline) and work experience respectively. Rating score E is the gender diversity score, which takes the value 0 for male candidates and 2 for all other candidates.]
