Bikash Bhavan Scholarship: Comprehensive Overview

The Bikash Bhavan scholarship is popularly known as the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means scholarship (SVMCM). The main aim of this scholarship is to assist the meritorious students belonging to economically backward families in the state of West Bengal. This scheme offers scholarships at different levels of higher studies, at educational institutions based in West Bengal. The Bikash Bhavan scholarship scheme was thoroughly revamped in the year 2016 to cover more students as well as to enhance the scholarship amounts significantly.

·   This scholarship aims to benefit students in class 9th,  Class 12th, and at the undergraduate level in science, arts, commerce, engineering, medical, technical, and professional courses.

·   Students should pass in the years 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, or 2019 with an aggregate of at least 60% or 75% marks in their last qualifying examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education/ West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education/ Madrasa Education for Higher Secondary Level.

·   60% marks in aggregate in Diploma courses from institutes approved by AICTE and affiliated to WBSCT & VE & SD for undergraduate level scholarship.

·   53% marks in aggregate in graduation from any state university for postgraduate level scholarship/ 55% marks in graduate courses from any state university or AICTE-approved institute of West Bengal for postgraduate Level Scholarship.

·   Students pursuing M.Phil courses and Doctoral courses from state-aided institutions will come under the purview of this scholarship scheme.

·   Girls students pursuing post-graduate courses in science, arts, and commerce stream from universities of this state after obtaining undergraduate degrees with an aggregate of 45% marks from institutions of this state.  

·   The maximum income level of the family should not exceed 2,50,000 per annum.

Bikash Bhavan Scholarship: Eligibility

Understanding the requirements put forth by the authorities for eligibility is essential before submitting an application for the SVMCM Scholarship. The scholarship could be revoked if these requirements are not met. Among the prerequisites for eligibility are:

  • The annual income of the family should not be more than Rs. 2,50,000.
  • Students in Classes 11 and 12 must have a minimum of 60% overall and be affiliated with either WBBSE or WBCHSE.
  • Undergraduates are required to retain a 60% cumulative GPA.
  • For UG level Scholarships (in second year Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy - Lateral Entry) or UG level Scholarships (in second year Pharmacy - Lateral Entry), diploma course students must have a 60% aggregate from an AICTE approved institute affiliated with WBSCT & VE & SD.
  • For Post Graduate Level Scholarship (General Education), postgraduate students must have 53% of their total graduation points in honors from any state university, or 55% of their points in graduate courses from any state university or West Bengali institution recognized by the AICTE for Post Graduate Level Scholarship (Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy).
  • Females who have completed their UG degree with a cumulative GPA of 45% from state universities and are pursuing postgraduate studies in Science, Arts, or Commerce departments at state universities are eligible to apply for the Bikash Bhavan Scholarship as Kanyashree (K3) candidates. 
     

It's crucial to remember that recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply for other government grants or scholarships at the same time for the same course of study or program. The eligibility for a scholarship will not be impacted by one-time grants or help from host schools or other sources, though.

Bikash Bhavan scholarship: Procedure to Apply for a Scholarship

·      Candidates from different categories will submit their application forms online in the scholarship portal.

·   Applications would be arranged in descending order on the basis of marks obtained in the examination.

·   Scholarships would be sanctioned as per the availability of funds and strictly on the basis of the merit list

·   For failed transactions of scholarship money, the last date of correction at the respective Directorate end is 30th June of each year.

 Bikash Bhavan Scholarship: Renewal of Scholarship

  •   An application needs to be submitted online in order to renew the scholarship to the concerned scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of his/her admission to the next higher class due to promotion by passing on the first attempt (In case of Semester mode-All Semester Examinations need to be cleared in the first attempt).
  •   Renewal cases (concentrated only at a particular level of study) will be sanctioned subject to good academic performance (Minimum 60% marks should be obtained from Higher Secondary Level to Undergraduate Level (combining both semesters) at the promotional examination) and 50% marks (combining both semesters) at Post Graduate Level.
