Bharti Airtel Scholarship Overview - Bharti Airtel Foundation, on Tuesday, announced ‘Bharti Airtel Scholarship Program’ for underprivileged students from diverse socio economic backgrounds. Bharti Airtel Foundation which is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprise announced this scholarship to celebrate its 25th year anniversary. Bharti Airtel Scholarship is a merit-cum-means scholarship program which is meant to finance the students engineering undergraduate as well as integrated courses in top 50 colleges as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking. These colleges also include our most prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, widely recognized as IITs. 

The scholarship program has been launched to celebrate the successful 25 years of the Bharti Airtel Foundation and it is designed to begin with 250 students a year and will eventually reach up to 4000 students in a phased manner. As financial outlay of the program is projected to exceed INR 100 Crores per year as it reaches its peak.

Bharti Airtel Scholarship Program Highlights

  • Students with Bharti Foundation Scholarship will be known as Bharti Scholars.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal is the vice chairman of Bharti Enterprises and co-chairman of Bharti Airtel Foundation. Bharti Enterprises also operates the well known and largely expanded telecom firm Airtel. Rakesh Bharti Mittal has said that the program primarily focuses on the girl child and enables them to achieve academic excellence and pursue their dreams. The main objective of the scholarship program is to remove the barriers for underprivileged students who are in dire need of financial assistance to begin, continue, or complete their education. 

Bharti Airtel Scholarship intends to financially support students belonging to diverse socio-economic backgrounds and will be applicable to students eligible for and seeking admission in August 2024. The scholarship program will be applicable and provided to students whose family income is equal to or less than INR 8,50,000 a year (INR 8.5 Lakh / year). 

Rakesh Bharti Mittal says For the 2024 cohort, we will be picking up 250 students coming from the tech sector. The applications will be reviewed for meeting the criteria by Buddy4Study. The corpus or collection of the new scholarship program will come from the corporate social responsibility spends that the group had committed as per the compliance norms. The scholarship program is expected to focus on undergraduate as well as integrated courses in the field of Electronics and Communication, Telecom, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Data Sciences, and other emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, and Robotics.

The students who will be offered this scholarship will be known as ‘Bharti Scholars’. The benefits of Bharti Foundation Scholarship include 100% college fees throughout the duration of course and free laptop. The eligible candidates who apply for the scholarship program will also get their hostel and mess fees waived off. The recipients of the scholarship will also be incessantly encouraged to willingly support at least one student after they complete their graduation and are successfully employed. 

The Bharti Airtel Foundation began with Satya Bharti Schools for the underprivileged students in the year 2006 and now it has 164 schools in four states across the country. Now the number of students has increased to 36,000. The ratio of girls to boys in these schools is almost 50:50. Girls account for half of the students enrolled in these schools. The foundation has also created its quality support program which is responsible for transferring the best practices from Satya Bharti Schools to several government schools. It now covers 880 such schools and 3,70,000 students across 12 states. Now the program has also started supporting higher education programs.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal has noted that almost 100 alumni of the senior secondary schools have been employed into Bharti Airtel at several positions, while another 100 alumni are under the review process. Some of the graduates from these schools have chosen to come back to the schools as volunteers and teachers. 

Rakesh Bharti Mittal is also the chairman of the Indian School of Business’ Advisory Board at Mohali. He also pitched to the board that in order to meet the present and future needs of the industry, we must come up with a stronger industry-academia partnership for making the course curriculum more relevant.
