The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSCCGL) exam is your gateway to various exciting government jobs and ASO is one such popular job position. The Assistant Section Officer (ASO) position is also known as Assistant in the Central Secretariat Service (CSS). ASO plays a vital role in government administration which acts as a bridge between different levels and departments. 

The SSC CGL 2024 notification is expected to be officially released by the staff selection commission on 11th June 2024. 

The Tier 1 exam for SSC CGL 2024 will be held in Sep-Oct 2024, and all the eligible candidates can fill out and submit the application form by July 10, 2024. The recruitment process includes tier 1 and tier 2 exams, and candidates can check the SSC CGL syllabus and exam pattern for effective preparations.

Important Dates for SSC CGL 2024

The SSC CGL releases their calendar on their official website well in advance which states the dates of tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 exams which can vary at times as per the number of applications registered and logistical considerations. 

According to the staff selection Commission date, the upcoming notification will be released on 11TH June. SSC CGL tier 1 exams are expected to be held in September – October. All the eligible candidates can fill out and submit the application form by July 10, 2024. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree from a Recognised University or equivalent; in any discipline is mandatory. 
  • Age Limit: The age limit usually falls between 18 to 30 years.  There are some age relaxations for candidates belonging to Reserved Categories such as SC/ST/OBC.
  • Nationality: The candidate must be an Indian Citizen (citizen of the country where the position is being offered.
  • Other requirements: There might be some additional requirements that can vary as per the duty of the job role.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Role and Responsibilities of an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) can vary depending on the departments and the organization but generally include the following:

  • File Management & Clerical Tasks: Maintaining and organizing records by ensuring proper documentation. Also assisting senior officers with administrative tasks by scheduling meetings and appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Data Entry and Recording: Data entering and updating in databases and information systems by keeping accurate records of office activities and transactions. 
  • Parliamentary Liaison: ASO acts as an important link between the Parliament and the Central Secretariat, facilitating communication and handling matters related to parliamentary questions, assurances, and government bills.
  • Policy and Regulatory Support: ASOs also assist in formulating and monitoring government policies by following the rules and regulations & ensuring their effective implementation.

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) Exam is as follows:

        Tier 1 Preliminary Examination

  • Mode: Online (Computer Test)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Type of Questions: Multiple-Choice Questions
  • Sections: General Intelligence, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension.
  • Marking Scheme: +2 for each correct answer and -0.50 for each incorrect answer
  • Result: Candidates who clear the cut-off move to Tier 

        Tier 2: Main Examination

  • Mode: Online (Computer-based test)
  • Duration: 120 minutes for each paper.
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • Sections: Paper I - Quantitative Abilities and Paper II – English Language & comprehension.
  • Marking Scheme: +2 for the correct answer -0.25 for each incorrect answer (Paper I) and -0.50 for each incorrect answer (Paper II).
  • Result: Candidates who clear the cut-off move to Tier 3. 

      Tier 3: Descriptive Paper

  • Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper mode)
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Types of Questions: Descriptive (Essay writing, Letter/Application writing, etc).
  • Sections: Descriptive Writing
  • Marking Scheme: Subjective Evaluation
  • Result: Qualifying in nature; marks obtained in Tier 3 are not added to the final score but need to pass for consideration to Tier 4.

       Tier 4: Skill Test/ Computer Proficiency Test

  • Mode: Depends on the position
  • Skill Test: Typing/ Data entry on a computer (for certain positions)
  • Computer Proficiency Test: Testing proficiency in computer applications (certain positions)
  • Duration: Depends on the specific test requirements
  • Type of Test: Skill-based 
  • Result: Qualifying in nature, only needs to be passed, and marks obtained are not added to the final score.

  •      Mathematics: Number system, Simplification, HCF & LCM, Square & cube Root, Time & Work, Pipe & Cistern, Time & Distance, Boat & Stream, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Mixture & Allegation, Ratio & Proportion, Average, Partnership, Problem on age, Simple Interest, Algebra Compound Interest, Mensuration, Probability, Geometry, Trigonometry, Data Interpretation, Statistics.
  •      English: Reading Comprehension, phrases, and idioms, one-word substitution, sentence correction, error spotting, Fill in the blanks, Spellings correction, synonyms-Antonyms, Active Passive, Sentence Rearrangement, Sentence Improvement, Close test.

SSC CGL Physical Standards

 Male Candidates

Height 157.5 cm

Chest 81 cm

(fully expanded with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.)

Height relaxable by 5cm in the case of Garwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas, and members of scheduled Tribes.

 

Physical Test:

Walking: 1600 m in 15 minutes. 

Cycling: 8km in 30 minutes

 

Female Candidates

Height 152 cm 

Weight 48 kgs
